Luis Di Como announced chair of the jury at The Festival of Media LatAm 2013 Awards

Unilever SVP to be joined by jury panel with brand representatives including Christian Dior, Visa and Grupo Bimbo; plus four new categories announced for  2013 – deadline July 26

Unilever Senior Vice President of Global Media, Luis Di Como, has been appointed Chair of the Jury at the third annual Festival of Media LatAm Awards, event organiser C Squared has announced.

Di Como will be joined by a judging panel featuring some of the leading media figures from Latin America, who will assess entries across 16 different categories – including four which are new in 2013. Commenting on this year’s Festival of Media LatAm awards, Di Como said: “Latin America continues steadily on its path to becoming one of the key growth markets in the world, and increasingly presents a high level of competition in every industry.

“As a result, everyone in the communications and marketing industry needs to work harder each year to stand out from their peers; and the only way to do this is by being more creative and effective in the way of engaging with their consumers. There is no doubt that 2013 is set to be an impressive year for the region. My fellow jurors and I have a hard task ahead of us.”

The brand representatives joining Di Como on the final judging panel are:

  • Luis Ortozar, Regional Marketing Director, Christian Dior (US)
  • Ricardo Perez, Director of Marketing Communications, Grupo Bimbo (Mexico)

Media agencies on the panel are represented by:

  • Matias Alpert, Chief Digital Officer, Ogilvy and Mather Latina (Spain)
  • Fernando Capalbo, General Manager, OMD (Argentina)
  • Luis Contreras, Director, RepriseMedia (Chile)
  • Juan Fernando Nino, General Manager, PHD (Colombia)
  • Cesar Parra, General Manager, BPN Colombia (Colombia)
  • Natalia Vasco, CEO, Havas Media International (US)
  • Tonatiuh Hernandez, CEO, Arena (Mexico)
  • Marcelo Tripoli, CEO, SapientNitro (Brazil)
  • Annetta Cembrano, General Manager, MEC (Chile)

Further judges will be announced in the coming weeks. The entry deadline is 26 July 2013. The shortlist will be announced on 28 August 2013, with the winners being unveiled at a gala dinner on 27 September which will conclude The Festival of Media LatAm 2013. The four new categories for 2013 have been unveiled as:

  • Best Original Content

This category is about content creation – open to all brands, agencies and production organisations that are dealing with brands in order to devise, create and distribute branded content. Judges will look for content that fits with the brand strategy and addresses a clearly-defined marketing challenge as well as how it fits the brand’s values.

  • The Pan-Latin America Award

This important new category is designed to reflect and reward the effective management of regional advertising campaigns. Whether this is for a brand communicating a message across multiple markets, or the application of a multi-local strategy by an agency or regional media owner, the Pan-LatAm Award is looking for flair, consumer insight, great execution and, above all, results.

  • Best US Hispanic Campaign

The purchasing power of the US/Hispanic market in the USA will top $1.5trn in 2015. With that in mind, The Festival of Media judging panel wants to assess cases of excellence in reaching this
group, particularly where media innovation has played a crucial part. The successful campaign could be multilingual, Spanish or English – whether it’s TV, print, out of home, online or an
integrated approach.

  • Best Contribution to a Campaign by a Media Owner

This category recognises the efforts of media owners in their work with advertiser clients to connect with their audiences. Entries will be judged on a level of creative thinking, consumer
insight and successes for the client. The winning campaign could be a multi-platform strategy or a single marketing execution.

The Festival of Media LatAm Awards recognise excellence and innovation in media campaigns from across Latin America. Last year entries were submitted from 12 countries.

The Festival of Media LatAm will take place from 25 – 27 September 2013 at the Fountainebleau hotel, Miami Beach and is the only event dedicated to all 23 Latin American markets. The three
day event brings together Latin America’s most high profile figures and senior level decision makers from across the worlds of advertising, media and marketing.
